A Place to Honor African American Heritage

Once Frederick Douglass Memorial Park opened in 1935 Rodney Dade was able to provide a respectable burial plot for his famous and accomplished African American clientele. One such person being Negro League player and manager; King Solomon White.

Frederick Douglass Memorial Park stands out as the only operating cemetery in the state of New York established by African Americans and recognized by the City of New York as a historic site. This unique designation highlights our commitment to preserving not only the physical space but also the rich history and culture associated with it.

Frederick Douglass Memorial Park is a testament to the resilience and determination of the African American community, offering a serene setting that honors the legacies of those who have come before us. We take pride in being a vital part of this historic narrative, ensuring that the stories of our ancestors are remembered and celebrated.

What truly sets us apart is our deep-rooted connection to the community we serve. The Conservancy is a collaborative force for positive change, inviting community members and donors to join us in our mission to preserve and enhance this significant landmark. Our focus on community engagement fosters a sense of belonging and collective responsibility, allowing individuals to contribute their voices and ideas toward the park's future. Together, we create a supportive environment that honors African American history and cultivates a strong, united community.
