Committed to the Preservation of History and Memories

Frederick Douglass Memorial Park, was established in 1935 by Harlem Funeral Director Rodney Dade and fellow Businessman Benjamin Diamond. Mr Dade was tired of being subjected to the racism and Jim Crow treatment in getting grave plots for his clients. So he and Mr Diamond arranged for the purchase of 17 acres of land on the south shore of Staten Island and there constructed a parklike cemetery for the interment African Americans.

The Frederick Douglass Memorial Park Conservancy was established in 2018 as a 501(c) 3 Not for profit for the purpose of raising funds to renovate and preserve Frederick Douglass Memorial Park.

On June 18, 2024 the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission designated Frederick Douglass Memorial Park as an Individual Landmark. Landmarks Preservation Commission
